We Begin… July 19-20

We flew from Wilmington to Atlanta with no problems. Once in Atlanta we had a four hour layover before our next flight. So, thanks to Gretchen, went to the Delta Sky Lounge to wait. Our departure gate changed three times which mean two trips on the shuttle train between terminals and then a two hour delay. We finally left Atlanta around 11 p.m. and headed to São Paulo. It is over a nine hour flight but we arrived in Brazil around 9:30 a.m.  Baggage claim and Customs were a breeze and our guide Xavier Munoz was waiting for us.

From São Paulo it is a 3 hour drive to Trilha dos Tucanos with a stop for lunch on the way.  We will be staying here until Saturday.  In just the first couple of hours these birds were hanging out nearby…

(I will go back and identify these when internet is stronger)

  1. Ok, that thing out there in the dark could be a Lowland Tapir but if it's eating goat meat, it's a Chupacabra - nothing to fool around with.
